Useful Information

• Ideal for growing in pots and as a bonsai
• Small to medium-sized deciduous tree
• Only loses its leaves for a short time in spring
• Usually multi-stemmed - but can be pruned to form a stem
• Fissured, brownish-grey and rough bark
• Flowers grow on the drooping branches from spring to early summer and can cover the entire tree
• After flowering, the tree forms paper-like, brown fruit capsules that hang down in grapes from the branches

Our Tips:

• For increased germination, let the seeds swell in water at room temperature for 24 hours before sowing
• Growing in advance is recommended
• Cover the growing containers with foil and make holes in them so that the soil does not dry out
• Remove the film every two to three days to prevent mould growth
• Keep the potting soil moist, but not wet
• Ideal germination temperature: 20 to 25°C
• Prick out: five to eight weeks after germination
• Thorough watering recommended as soon as the top layer of soil has dried - even during the flowering phase
• Daily spraying of the leaves is recommended
• A little fertilizer is recommended until flowering and then every 14 days until late autumn with a special bonsai fertilizer
• Ideal winter temperature: 5 to 10°C
• Water little in winter so that the root ball does not dry out
