Basil is a must, not only in Italian cuisine! Of course, this indispensable culinary herb tastes best when you harvest it fresh.
Basil can easily be sown in pots, in window boxes, on the windowsill and from May on, directly in the field. Basil prefers humus-y, loose soils and a sunny, sheltered location without blazing midday sun. Basil in particular needs a lot of heat when germinating. Since basil is a light germinator, the seeds should not be covered with soil when sowing.
